Program Notes:
Kinetikos, written between June ‘93 and February ‘94, is a one movement work characterized by an underlying rhythmic energy and sense of forward motion. The piece is a set of developing variations in which music is continuously reshaped, mixed with new material, and presented in various textural and timbral settings. In the penultimate section fragments of motivic material are thrown together, creating a musical whirlwind which propels the piece into a final, prolonged frenzy. Kinetikos was premiered at Indiana University by the I.U. New Music Ensemble in April 1994.
